Within the Support Action for Strengthening Palestinian-administrated Areas capabilities in Seismic Risk Mitigation project in Palestine (SASPARM2), Conducted by the Urban Planning and Disaster Risks Reduction Center/An-Najah National University in cooperation with EUCENTRE and IUSS University in Italy, a number of short training courses with the participation of 430 students from different faculties in the University were offered in coordination with the Community Service and Continuing Education Center.
The training courses covered a number of themes related to the general concepts of Disaster Risks Reduction, Risk Assessment and Disaster Risk Management in addition to training the students how to fill out the building assessment form allocated to citizens to determine the extent of these buildings’ resistance to earthquakes.
These courses aimed to develop the culture of university students in the field of disaster risk management as well as to introduce them to SASPARM2 project, thus creating a common language in this area of science.
This activity comes to achieve the objectives of the SASPARM2 project. Based on the results of its effectiveness (Tasks and activities), it has been agreed with the civil defense and a number of institutions relevant to respond to emergencies, to establish a volunteer system for the university students, and the foundations of this system have been set.
